Bodies intensify stir against MRVT&MW Bill

A mass rally was taken out on Thursday by students from various schools of Imphal West underpinned by various women's bodies and other civil societies demanding immediate withdrawal of MRVT&MW Bill, 2014 during the ongoing Assembly session.
The rally started from AMUCO office, Kwakeithel planning to storm the Assembly.
"Long Live Manipur," "ILP should be implemented in Manipur," "A new bill should be passed" and "Existing bill must be withdrawn" are some of the slogans they shouted during the rally.
When they reached Takhel Leikai, a scuffle ensued when police tried to stop them.
Eventually, their attempt was foiled by police in front of Tiddim Service Station along the Tiddim road.

Secretary of Nongchup Imphal Apunba Meira Paibi Lup, L Gyaneshwori said, "On August 6, 2014 a committee was formed by all the political parties of Manipur in order to look into the matter.
This committee came up with a report and recommendation which was against the indigenous people and passed the MRVT & MW Bill, 2014 .
This bill rather tends to protect the migrants which is against the wish of the indigenous people.
Therefore, this agitation is launched to demand passing a bill which will incorporate the 5 points recommend by the JC-ILPS during the current session of the Assembly and should withdraw the bill passed earlier" .
The five points which meet the people's aspirations recommended by the JC-ILPS are:
A strong permit or pass for migrants as regards their purpose, whereabouts, or validity of their stay for a specific period.
A cut off year of 1951 should be fixed for the people who are creating demographic changes in the State.
No land ownership rights are to be given to all non indigenous people and necessary procedures are included in the preparation of the proposed law.
A full-fledged labour department which has to outreach an effective jurisdiction in all the districts of Manipur be empowered and strengthened to strictly implement matters of registration and regulation of internal migrant labours and its necessary rules.
Detection and deportation of illegal migrants and non indigenous peoples, should be included in the proposed legislation, and necessary action taken thereof.
