Two-day 2nd State level ginger festival kicks off at Pherzawl

Call for systematic farming of ginger rang out loud as the two-day 2nd State level Ginger Festival kicked off at Pherzawl district headquarters today.
Inaugurating the 2nd edition of State Level Ginger festival, Mannuamching, DC, Pherzawl district said that the festival is aimed at encouraging and promoting gingers and farmers of the district.
It also aims to bring in people from all over the world to explore the wild natural beauty of the place and experience the local way of life and culture in an absolutely untouched destination.
Saying that farming is a noble occupation, the DC exhorted the farmers to judiciously use resources like forest and land while also dissuading the farmers from rampant use of chemicals like pesticides, weedicides and synthetic fertilizers.
Steps in the right direction should be taken by all stakeholders to prevent wastages of labour and produces due to lack of good roads for transportation, she added.
Mannuamching further urged the farmers to opt for organic way of farming which will in the long run save the environment and enhanced fertility and productivity.
Expressing concern over the deteriorating environment condition due to unchecked use of forest and land, the DC urged the gatherings to take care and nurture their surroundings.
She also exuded strong confidence that the festival helps farmers increase production and reaches out to a bigger market.The DC along with other officials inspected the agro product exhibition stalls put up by various farmers drawn from different villages.
Speaking at the occasion, S Thienlaljoy Gangte, Addl DC, Pherzawl emphasized about the need for proper financial management.
He also urged the farmers to prepare their second line of income generation.
Other dignitaries also spoke at length about the need for going organic and systematic farming that is not detrimental to the environment.
Amongst others, the inaugural function was attended by member ADC, CCPur Lalhmangpui; Project Director, MOMA, Devdutta Sharma; State Manager of Clover Organic Pvt Ltd, Phiamphu Khamsanglian; Managing Director of Nahakpam Food and Beverage, Santa Nahakpam along with SDOs and DLOs of Pherzawl district.
By the sideline of the inaugural function, a free medical camp was organized by Doctors and Paramedics from CMO Pool, Pherzawl.
Presentation of colourful cultural items by troupes from surrounding villages and other mesmerising items from prominent artistes marked the function.
Mannuamching also flagged off trucks carrying organic ginger to different parts of the State after the function.
Business session and farmers' consultative meeting will be held on the second day tomorrow wherein an anti-tobacco campaign will also be taken out by the district administration.
