Imphal, February 02 2014:
Setting February 20 deadline for the Government of Manipur to begin black topping of the Lamphel road stretch from the power sub-station (RIMS turning) to Lamphel Sanakeithel, various organisations of Thangmeiband AC threatened to blockade entire route if there is no positive action within the specified period.
decrying continuous silence of the Government to repeated demands for expeditious development of the road a sit-in-protest under the joint aegis of Thangmeiband United Club, Khongnangkhong Apunba Meira Paibi Lup, Khwai Lamphel Women's United Development Organisation and Lamphel Super Market Development Committee was held today by blocking the Lamphel Super Market Road.
speaking to newspersons at the protest site, Thangmeiband United Club secretary k Surjit said the road portion from Lamphel sub-station power house upto Sanakeithel has been in deplorable condition since 2006 thereby causing severe inconvenience to daily commuters in addition to health threat posed to the locals due to dirt pollution.
As the said road stretch is frequented by several hundred vehicles on a daily basis for important Government institutions/offices including RIMS Hospital, are located at Lamphelpat there is no respite of the locals, maintained Surjit who also regretted that inspite of top officials and VIPs plying on the same road there seems to be no initiative for repairing the same.
Opining that the Lamphel road might be the worst in the State, he reiterated that failure to undertake relevant measures for black topping the road might compel the organisation to ban vehicular traffic permanently.
Other forms of agitation would also be launched if there is no positive action from the State Government, cautioned the secretary.
