International Day for Older Persons observed

Lungnila Elizabeth School of Social Work (LESSW), Senapati organized and celebrated the International Day for Older Persons with the theme "Stepping Into the Future: Tapping the talents, Contribution and Participation of Older Person in the Society", at the community hall, Katomei Centre .
The Programme was attended by numerous special invitees, elderly and the villagers .
According to the village chairman, there are approximately 52 older persons in the village .
The programme was organized for the first time by the institute to raise awareness about the factors affecting the elderly and to show gratitude and appreciation for their contribution and sacrifice for the society .
The program started at 11.00 am with an opening prayer by the Catechist of St Paul Catholic Church, Simon.
The programme was graced by T Luikang, chief of Katomei Centre, as chief guest, Taru Tuiba, chairman of Katomei, as the special guest while T Peter Rangnamei, secretary of MANEDA, Hingba Joyson, coordinator of LESSW and Medical Social Worker, JNIMS, attended the event as the resource person .
Hingba Joyson talked about the history of Older person day, the factors affecting the elderly, need for taking care of the elderly and the importance of valuing them .
International Day for Older Person was historically established by United Nation on 14th December 1990 as per resolution 45/106 and was first observed on 1st October 1991.It is celebrated all over the world on this day to remember the contribution of older person at local, national and international level in building the present society .
Students of LESSW showcase songs, dance and plays on "Old is Gold" to show that old age should be considered a blessing not a burden.
Gift packs were also presented to the elderly during the programme.
