Imphal, June 30 2013:
Taking strong exception to the alleged gang rape of 14 year old girl on June 28, different women organisations have joined hands and formed a JAC.
The JAC has subsequently decided to launch intense forms of agitation until the rapists are awarded exemplary punish-ment.
A joint meeting of the women organisations was held today in the office of the Zeliangrong Union here where AMKIL president Phanjoubam Sakhi, Poirei Leimarol president L Mem-choubi, Kanglamei president Y Leirikleima, KAMA president Kakomlunglu Kamei and CHITUWA president Maibam Purnima were seated as presidium members.
Kakomlunglu Kamei, who was appointed as convenor of the JAC said that gang rape of a 14 year old girl close on the heels of passing the final judgement on the gang rape case of a U-Morok (chilli) trader only indicated that life imprisonment is not enough deterrent for such criminals.
Had all the four rapists been awarded capital punishment instead of life imprisonment, there would have been any further rape cases, Kakomlunglu opined.
JAC advisor Memchoubi appealed to City Police to work sincerely on the gang rape case of the 14 year old girl.
Accused Naorem Pritam s/o N Priyokumar of Nongmeibung Pung Makhong should not be released under any excuse.
"Pull up all the accused and suspects first and let the victim identify them", Memchoubi said.
JAC co-convenor L Gyaneshwari said that 19 year old Pritam alleged raped the minor girl on March 3 this year.
In this case, Pritam was put in observation home for sometime on the ground of being a juvenile before he was released on bail.
Pritam again raped the girl.
This time, together with five other persons.
And his crime has been testified by the victim, Gyaneshwari said.
JAC advisor Leirik called upon all legislators to take a firm resolution so as to check crimes against women during the ongoing Assembly session.
