Senapati, May 31 2021:
The United Naga Council (UNC) has expressed its "deep pain" by the passing away of Dr P S Lorin on the morning of Monday, and joined the "Naga family across the world in mourning his departure from
amongst us" .
A founding member and the first Secretary General of the Naga Peoples' Movement for Human Rights (NPMHR), Dr Lorin and his contemporaries laid the foundation of a tradition of human rights activists among the Nagas.
The Naga body added he was associated with the Forum for Naga Reconciliation (FNR) and in their noble endeavour of peace building both within and beyond the Naga fold.
"While we lament that our people still needed him at this critical hour, we are comforted by the fact that he left a positive and enabling legacy both in his personal life and in his social engagements from which the journey will continue.
We celebrate his life and salute him for his manifold contributions," the UNC said.
"We are reaching out to his beloved wife, children and relatives and to the Rengma community with our solidarity and our prayers for God's grace to bear the great pain of his departure," it added.
