'Black Quarter' (BQ) outbreak claims 20

Around 20 cattles have died due to reported outbreak of seaso-nal 'Black Quarter' disease in Ngairangban area of Imphal West district.
Meanwhile, residents of Ngairangban have aired their grievances against the Veterinary department for their alleged lack of initiative to curb the outbreak.
Though most of the owners came forward to claim their cattles, some of them are lying decomposed in the field.
With the efforts of member of Yurembam Zilla Parishad, and Upa Adhyaksa of Imphal West Ch Bijenti, around 250 cattles were administered vaccination today at Ngairangban.
Confirming the dead of the cattles were due to BQ disease, Veterinary Doctor of Khumbong, K Subon said the disease is prevalent during spring time, ie, March-April.
He said the symptoms of the disease are deformity/swelling of the stomach, no appetite, and pain in the legs.
Subon said that timely administering of antibiotic dose can save the cattles.
He said though chance of transmission of the disease to human being is low it would be better not to consume the meat of the cattles.
