District Youth Convention held at Thoubal

A one-day Thoubal District Youth Convention was organized under Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports, Govt of India by Nehru Yuva Kendra (NYK), Thoubal at Barrack Hall (Strong Room) of Mini Secretariat, DC Complex Thoubal today.
In his Chief guest speech, Minister Radheshyam said NYK is taking a right step by organizing the youth convention for Thoubal district on New Year eve and added that major contribution is required from the youth to bring equitable development in the region and the State as well.
He further said that all the club, organization and association in each locality should work without affiliation to any political'party and they should chart out their development plan and the way to acheive them on a long term basis.
Stating that the various welfare schemes taken up by the Govt is not able to reach the intended persons, he lamented that the earlier practice of providing various welfare scheme of Govt to near and dear ones and relatives of the person who is looking after the affair of the scheme is the root cause in making the initiative of Govt unsuccessful and urged the public especially the youths to help identify the poor family and underprivileged persons of their region so that benefits of welfare scheme can be reached to them and become a role model in bringing a positive change in the society.
He also appealed all the District Level Officers (DLOs) to shun the habit of working in the comfort of their office only and instead visit each and every villages of their area to assess the status of the villages.
The youth convention organized on the theme 'Empowered Youth, Empowered Nation' was attended by Education Minister Thokchom Radheshyam Singh as chief guest, ADC/ADM Thoubal Laishram Radhakanta Singh as functional president while eminent Economist, Professor N Mohendro Singh and District Youth Coordinator, NYK Thoubal, Y Laksman Singh attended the event as guests of honour.
DYC, NYK Thoubal Y Laksman delivered the welcome speech as well as the keynote speech of the convention and spoke in detail about NYK and its development projects.
At the later part of the convention, general manager, District Industries Centre (DIC), Thoubal K Rohenkumar Singh spoke about the various initiatives taken up by DIC for the public while young entrepreneur, Khogen Akoijam shared his success story and struggle he faced while establishing strawberry farm in Manipur.
As part of the convention, sports items were also distributed to selected youth clubs of the district.
