PWF awards Rs 1.39 lakh as medical assistance to scribes

The Paomee Welfare Foundation (PWF), a non-profit trust of the All Manipur Working Journalists' Union (AMWJU), on Monday disbursed Rs 1.39 lakh as assistance under the Medical Financial Assistance (MFA) Phase I for the year 2024-25.PWF's team, led by its managing trustee Kakchingtabam Bijoy, senior trustee Elangbam Emocha and other trustees of PWF handed over the financial assistance to the 7 beneficiaries of MFA 2024-25, Phase-I during a simple distribution function held at the Manipur Press Club.
Altogether, 8 applications were received, seeking assistance under the MFA (first phase) for 2024-25 for medical expenses incurred between April 1 to September 31, 2024 .
Subsequently, the applications were all forwarded to the PWF Medical Board.
After due deliberation, the Medical Board gave its recommendations.
While deliberating on the recommendations of the Board, the Trustees' Board meeting detected an invalid application as it was the second application from the same person with MFA being a one-time assistance scheme for primary members, associate members, and former AMWJU members but retired journalists.
The rest of the 7 applications were duly approved for disbursement.
Salam Hemchandra Singh of Ichel Express who was treated for Acute Appendicitis was recommended a sum of Rs 15,000 as assistance.
However, he was given only Rs 9,000 as he had received Rs 6,000 as assistance from AMWJU as emergency financial assistance.
Thinbaijam Lakhikanta Singh of ISCOM received Rs 15,000 for his BPPV and Polycythemia treatment.
Aribam Premkumar Sharma of Impact TV who had applied for financial assistance for his mother's Thyroid Nodule received Rs 10,000 .
Thokchom Rocky Singh of Naharol Thoudang, Laimayum Subash Sharma of Impact TV also received Rs 10,000 each for their Pancreatitis and Cholelithiasis respectively.
Naharol Thoudang's Ingumbam Paban Singh who is suffering from acute anterior wall myocardial infarction CAD-DVD received Rs 35,000 while Nickel Arambam of Sangai Express received the maximum assistance of Rs 50,000 for his father's treatment of Parkinson's disease.
Alternatively, PWF also invited applications for MFA (second phase) for 2024-25 for treatment expenditure incurred between October 1, 2024 and March 31, 2025 .
The disbursement for which will be done in April-May 2025 .
