The 5th Rongmei Freshers' Meet cum Cultural Day 2024 Delhi NCR was held on October 26, 2024, at Grih Kalyan Kendra, Laxmi Bai Nagar, New Delhi, bringing together Rongmei freshers, community members, and distinguished guests for an inspiring day themed "Excellence and Self-Reliance" .
Organised by Rongmei Phwam Delhi (RPD) and Rongmei Chamnac Phwam Delhi (RCPD), the event aimed to promote cultural pride, unity, and achievement within the community, attracting around 1,500 attendees and creating a vibrant atmosphere of celebration and connection.
According to a release issued by RPD, the event commenced with the first session, featuring Huay Kauhmei, where participants pronounced "Ho-Ho-Ho" in a geometrical pattern, setting a lively tone.
This was followed by Mai Lapmei, a traditional method of making fire, performed by Pouning Panmei and Gaizingam Rwangmei.
The audience then joined in singing the Rongmei Anthem, standing in unity, before listening to the welcome speech delivered by the chairman of RPD, Levi Thaimei.
The session continued with a captivating Rongmei cultural dance performed by the Rongmei Women Cultural Dance Troupe Delhi NCR, showcasing the rich heritage of the Rongmei people.
A special Rongmei Freshers' Introduction followed, with gifts presented to the freshers to warmly welcome them into the community.
With Gaikhonlung Panmei, Joint Commissioner, GST & Customs, Ministry of Finance, as the resource person, attendees gained invaluable insights into personal and professional development.
D Thongongthui, Managing Director of United Builders India, delivered a keynote on entrepreneurship.
The program was further enriched with a soulful performance of traditional Rongmei folk songs by Dimkulung Pamei.
The first session concluded with a special performance from renowned Rongmei artiste Langunthai Daimei.
Awards for Best Rongmei Traditional Attire were presented to Susanna Gonmei and Bruce Kamei in the Children's category, and to Kazailiu Malingmei and Thuanreilung Pamei in the Adult category.
The second session started with special songs Gaithailiu Gonmei, Lankhuingam Rongmei John, and Gugu Ruangmei.
The event also highlighted freshers through the Top 10 Freshers' Finalists competition, culminating in Gaingamei Thaimei and Lulu Kamei being crowned Mister and Miss Freshers 2024.The panel of judges for selecting Mr and Miss Freshers comprised esteemed individuals, including Peichun Gangmei (advisor, RCPD), Lucas L Kamsuan (Joint Secretary, Department of Public Enterprises, GoIJ, Dr Janailung Francis Kamei (Assistant Professor, Satyawati College, Delhi University), and Singsing Panmei (founder, Sings' The Nails & Lashes Studio).
Besides, the Rongmei Achievers Award 2024 was presented to outstanding individuals from the Rongmei community for their exceptional contributions across various fields.
The recipients of the Rongmei Achievers Award 2024 are- Henry Kaphunjok (Entrepreneur category); Pouning Panmei (Private Company category); Dr Janailung Kamei Francis, Dr Kungreiliu Panmei, Dr P Lanbiliu, and Dr Gaidimlung K Jacob (PhD category); Dr Marim Joice Gonmei (Postdoctoral category); Pumima Kamei, Ningthuigong Kamei, and Kadaguang Malangmei (Postgraduate category); and Dingogailiu R Panmei (Undergraduate category) .
A special honor was given to Rongmei Nurses Delhi & NCR under the Social Work category for their selfless service to the community.
There was an introduction of RPD & RCPD Executives and Advisors to foster a stronger connection with the public and enhance community engagement A major highlight of the day featured an exciting Men's Body Show, led by K Rajuaklung Rongmei.
Khangamlung Kamei was awarded the Winner title, followed by Suamthaulung Panmei (1st Runner-Up) and Namsinlung Amos Kamei (2nd Runner-Up) .
The event also showcased the Rongmei Cultural Show, featuring Gaipuangliu Gonrnei and Lujianliu R Panmei as show-stoppers, celebrating the elegance of Rongmei traditional attire.
The musical special concert by renowned Rongmei singer Langunthai Daimei created an atmosphere of unity and cultural pride, followed by traditional Pazeihmei songs and dances with all attendees, marking a joyful celebration and the closing of the event.

The organising committee, led by Levi Thaimei and program secretary Mathiuduan Kahmei (president, RCPD), expressed deep gratitude to all participants, community leaders, and sponsors whose generous support made the event a resounding success.
