Cops sensitized to HIV

To create awareness on HIV and AIDS among police personnel, 1st MR Battalion organized a 'unit level training program on HIV/AIDS for police personnel at its banquet hall on Thursday morning.
N Dhana, Supervisor of District AIDS Control & Prevention Unit, Imphal West, who attended the function as resource person, said that HIV/AIDS is a challenge to human race.
According to a latest survey conducted by Manipur State AIDS Control Society, the number of people infected with HIV/AIDS in Manipur is 42,116 as on October 2012.This includes 23,578 males, 11,778 females and 2773 children of both sexes.
He further pointed out that rate of HIV transmission through sexual intercourse is 2.9% and 28.65 percent through sharing syringe while transmission rate of the HIV through female commercial sex workers and homosexual is 10.87% and 17.21% respectively.
Highlighting some of the preventive measures, Dhana said that state government is providing ART to 8, 5018 people including 2, 518 children.
A total number of 22,726 clients are at Pre-ART stage.
There are 64 numbers of Integrated Counselling & Testing Centers (ICTC) spread across Manipur for conducting HIV/AIDS tests.

Commandant, 1st MR Battalion and Dr K Golmei, MO In-charge, 1st Battalion attended the programme as presidium members.
Around 700 police personnel along with their family members attended the programme.
