Imphal, June 29 2016: Somsai Battalion of Somsai Sector Assam Rifles under the aegis of Hqs IGAR (South) recovered a powerful IED from near Cement Factory, Ukhrul on NH-202 yesterday.

A foot patrolling party of Somsai Battalion while sanitizing the road found a suspi- cious object wrapped in a polythene bag lying approximately 300 meters away from the highway, said a press release issued by PRO Hqs IGAR (S).

The troops cordoned off the area and stopped movement of vehicles to carry out a thorough search to ascertain presence of any miscreant for triggering the IED.

Bomb disposal team of the paramilitary force was called to the site.

Later, an IED weighing around 4.5 kg was neutralized at 4:15 pm, the press release added.
