Imphal, April 29 2015 :
The State unit president of JD-U M Tombi drew the attention of the State Government and the Centre to take stringent precautionary measures to make the ADC election, slated for June 1, a free and fair one.
Speaking to NNN over phone, M Tombi and JD (U) general secretary (Admin) Lien Gangte, who are currently in New Delhi to attend the Janata Paribar tomorrow, conveyed their apprehension that the ADC poll would not be free and fair.
M Tomba said that election has lost its purpose in hill areas of Manipur as only 'selection' of candidates has been taking place so far in these areas.
This time also, selection instead of election may take place as there are many forces that violate the democratic rights of the hill people and put undue pressure on the voters.
As a result, development took a backseat in hill areas, he added.
He appealed to the State and Centre to take up prior precautionary measures to avoid any cases of unwarranted incidents ahead of the ADC polls.
Janata Parbar will get a new name with a new symbol and party flag in the national meeting tomorrow, said M Tombi.
