Imphal, January 29 2015 : A grocery cum stationery shop was ravaged by an accidental fire which reportedly broke out from an electric short circuit at Sangaiprou along the Airport road at around 11.30 am today.

According to information culled from the shop, the shop was run by one Kongkham Herojit (31) s/o Ghanashyam of Nambol Maibam Chingmang.

In addition to local people's efforts, fire fighters of Manipur Fire Service rushed in and brought the raging fire under control before it could spread to adjacent structures.

With shopkeeper Herojit unwell, the shop was closed this morning.

The devastating fire broke out when the shop was closed.

The exact monetary value of the goods destroyed has not been estimated so far although it is feared that goods worth several thousands have been destroyed.
