Speaking on the occasion, M Memcha, president, CADA, Imphal West District Committee, accused womenfolk of consuming 'paan' and indulging in wasteful activities like playing Ludo (board game) all day.
Aside from this, women have also picked up the habit of consuming liquor during feasts and so on, she claimed.
Due to these damaging habits, women pay less attention to their children's activities, their friends and whereabouts.
This has consequently led to the increase of drug abuse among youths, she strongly alleged.
Dijen Laiphrakpam also addressed the gathering and said that in the beginning drug abusers carry out their activities in secreat.
However, later on, when they finally lose control of the situation, they cause a lot of disturbance in the locality as well as society in trying to procure the drug of their choice.
He added that curbing the abuse of illicit substances must be a continuous effort as this issue is something that can persist as well as reappear even after concerted effort for elimnination.
Separately, Panthoibi Leimarol Lamjing Meira Association, Apunba Nupi Lup VLF, Keirao Bitra and CADA Imphal East District Committee also organised a discussion session at Keirao Bitra Litan Makhong Community Hall today around 2 pm.
