World Hepatitis Day cum community health awareness programme held at Mao

The World Hepatitis Day, organised by District Health Society, Senapati and Community Health Awareness and Population Based Screening of Non Communicable Diseases (NCD) organised by the NCD Cell under integrated National Program for Prevention and Control of Cancers, Diabetes, cardiovascular Diseases and Stroke (NPCDCS), National Health Mission, Manipur was held at Health & Wellness Centre, Pudunamei, Senapati district on July 27.Speaking at the event, Dr Loli Mao, Director/CMO, District Health Society, Senapati said that Hepatitis is a disease which many are not aware of and remain undiagnosed.
'There are 6 different types of Hepatitis as A, B, C, D, E and G' but the most common among them are Hepatitis A, B and C, said the CMO.
Hepatitis refers to an inflammatory condition of the liver.
It's commonly caused by a viral infection.
Hepatitis A is caused by an infection with the hepatitis A virus (HAV).
It is most commonly transmitted by consuming food or water contaminated by faeces from a person infected with hepatitis A.Hepatitis B is transmitted through contact with infectious body fluids, such as blood, vaginal secretions, or semen, containing the hepatitis B virus (HBV).
Sharing razors with an infected person increase risk of getting Hepatitis B.It can be prevented with a vaccine, he said.
Hepatitis C comes from the hepatitis C virus (HCV).
Hepatitis C is transmitted through direct contact with infected body fluids, typically through injection drug use and sexual contact.
HCV is among the most common bloodborne viral infections, he said.
Individuals above 30 years were screened an diagnosed for many diseases at the event.
Dr Gairallu, SMO in-charge, Sub-District Hospital, Mao, Dr Sumpi Percy, DNO, NCD Cell, Senapati, Dr SR Augustine, Anal MO (CMO Pool), Dr P Palmei, DNO, HWC, Dr Cecilia Saprina, DS, SDH, Mao, Dr Mary Rose, SMO, SDH, Mao and Dr H Sahriinii, MO, (CMO Pool) attended the programme.
A similar programme was also held on July 25 at Punanamei Health & Wellness Centre.
