Imphal, December 27 2024: The North American Manipur Association (NAMA) in collaboration with Research Institute of Science & Technology organised the Dr A Surjalal SharmaMemorial Grant Distribution Programme at the conference hall of Physics Department, Manipur University.

It was attended by Prof N Lokendra, Vice Chancellor, MU; Prof Lalit Pukhrambam, Wayne State University, Michigan, USA; Prof N Rajmohon, former Vice Chancellor, DM University; Prof Sumitra Phanjoubam, Dean, School of Mathematical & Physical Science, MU and Prof Debananda Ningthoujam as presidium members.

The grant honors the memory of Dr A Surjalal Sharma who was a renowned Manipuri astrophysicist and one of the founding members of NAMA.

The Grant- a sum of Rs 50,000 each to two deserv ing candidates is aimed at supporting young Manipuri physicists and researchers in other disciplines.

After a rigorous selection process following applications from a varied pool of many deserving researchers, the grant was awarded to two PhD candidates namely Mairembam Kelvin Singh, Department of Physics, MU and Somi Raikhan, Department of History, MU.

Moreover, the 8th Nongin Manipuri Music Video Awards ceremony was held at MSFDS, Palace Compound today.

The awards were given in various categories such as Nongin Best Director, Best Music Director, Best Actor (Male), Best Actor (Female), Best Singer (Male), Best Singer (Female), etc.

Former Minister, Oinam Lukhoi; MSFDS, Secretary, B Sanju and Film Forum Manipur, Chairman, Laimayum Surjakanta Sharma attended the event as presidium members.
