Report indicates hospital's negligence in woman's death

The Special Medical Board constituted by the Government to investigate the death of Salam (o) Meenashwori Devi of Moirang Lamkhai in their report observed that there was a gross negligence on the part of the management of Shija Hospital and Research Institute, Langol.
The board was constituted by the Government with Director of Health Services, Dr O Ibomcha as the chairman.
Dr H Nabachandra, Dr L Ranjit, Dr L Deban and Dr S Bhagyabati of RIMS are the members of the committee.
The report of the medical board said that the deceased was admitted at around 10.54 am on October 17 with 39 weeks and 3 days pregnancy and there was no record of significant medical and surgical disorder.
Stating that the consent and authorization forms are complete, the report said that pre-operation, intra-operative and post-operative anaesthesia records were also available.
Following the induction of labour using 25 microgram of Miseprostel intra-vaginal at 3 pm of October 18, the gynaecologist examined Meenashwori at around 11.50 pm.
The patient was unable to bear the labour pain and hence decision for Caesarean section was taken after counselling the husband of the deceased women late in the night.
Caesarean section was performed under the general anaesthesia and a deeply asphyxiated baby weighing around 3.5 kg baby was delivery at around 12.45 am of October 19, the report said.
It further said that the condition of patient deceased women deteriorated after operation and transferred to ICU for ventilation support but the patient could not resuscitate and she was declared dead at around 2.40 pm on October 19 .
The medical board found that there was no resident medical officer (RMO) on duty in the duty room on October 18 night.
It may be mentioned that after the death of the woman, angry locals dismantled the front office of Shija Hospital.
