Helen Keller remembered on her 138th birth anniversary

The 138th birth anniversary of Helen Adams Keller was celebrated at different areas of the State today.
Handicapped Development (HD) Foundation Manipur celebrated the day at Manipur Press Club in Manipur State Commission For Women Chairperson Dr K Sobita attended as chief guest, Handicapped Development Foundation Manipur president Dr Ch Rupachandra as functional president, Parents & Guardian Council of People with Disabilities president Th Saratkumar and Dept of Economics, Manipur University Professor Dr Chinglen Meisnam as guests of honour.
Awards were presented to differently abled students who passed the class X and XII examination with flying colours and Post Matric Scholarships were also presented.
Speaking on the occasion, Dr Sobita said that people should encourage the differently abled persons in the country who have bagged achievements, more than abled persons, in different fields.
Despite her physical limitations, Helen Keler never stopped fighting for the weaker sections of the society.
She guided and lectured throughout the world and helped the differently abled persons to live rich and productive lives.
People should encourage and remember her bravery and will to fight.
She stated that differently abled persons should not be disheartened and try to become successful and self-reliant individuals.
Dr K Sobita urged the differently abled people to avail the benefits launched by the State Government and follow the philosophy and ideals of Helen Keler.
Handicapped Development Foundation general secretary Sapam Jasobanta said that it is the 3rd celebration organised by HD Foundation.
He said that the celebration was organised with an aim to recall Helen Keler, her guidance, her philosophy and encourage and wake the differently abled persons, their parents and leaders of the State with her as the role model.
A memorandum was also submitted to Chief Minister, he said.
Dr Chinglen Meisnam elaborated on the life story of Helen Adams Keler.
In another event, a memorial lecture was conducted at Ideal Blind School, Takyel today to observe 138th birthday of Helen Adams Keller.
The lecture programme was organised by Relief Centre For The Welfare of Differently Abled Person, Manipur.
Floral tributes were paid to Helen Adams Keller.
Speaking about Helen Keller, International Awardee M Premier Singh stated that she was a leader and a fighter despite severe physical limitations.
He also stressed on her works and contributions to the world.
The event was attended by Idea Blind School headmistress Y Premlata as chief guest and National awardee Laimayum Amarendra Sharma, Mrs India IAWA runner up 2017 Ashakiran Konsam as guests of honours and Rehabilitation officer of the centre Kh Kanarjit as president.
Sweets, rice and dal were distributed to the students of the school.
