Imphal, July 25 2014 :
The indefinite Imphal-Moreh bandh called by the Civil Organisation of Aimol tribe paralysed vehicular movements along the Imphal-Moreh section of the National Highway.
Bandh supporters armed with sticks blocked the road at Unamul Lamkai near Pallel piling up woods and boulders thereby prohibiting vehicles from proceeding.
Emergency services, media, vehicles carrying patients and religious related programs were, however, exempted from the purview of the purview of the bandh.
Besides damaging two two-wheelers and a car, no other violent incident was reported till the filing of this report.
Sote Aimol, general secretary of Aimol tribe union, Manipur (ATUM) said that the bandh was enforced in protest against the State Government's failure to evict the encroached structures along Aimol road.
Sote further informed that the union had earlier imposed a similar bandh on the matter and had submitted memoranda to the authorities concerned.
However, the general secretary added, the Government had turned a deaf ear to their demands.
Sote appealed the general public to co-operate with the bandh and further appealed the Government, yet again, to come up with a reasonable solution to the problem at the earliest.
