Couple held on murder charge

Police have arrested a husband and his wife for allegedly getting a 56 year old woman murdered by hiring contract killers.
The killers were allegedly hired by the wife.
The incident occurred last night at Thiyam Chingjin, under Irilbung PS, Imphal East, after the victim, identified as Kshetrimayum (O) Sumati alias Ningol Devi w/o Ksh Deven of Bharmapur Bheigyapati (near Yashu Club) was going to a specific location along with the accused woman, Laimayum Amubi of Palace Compund Thangapat Mapal, who had allegedly ordered the hit.
Police said the husband Indra and his wife Amubi were arrested as main suspects of the murder of the 56 year old woman.
The husband and wife duo was produced before the Duty Magistrate Imphal East late in the afternoon today, along with a prayer for remanding them to 9 days in police custody.
During the hearing today, the IO submitted that yesterday, a complaint was lodged by husband of the deceased at around 10.40 pm yesterday and during the course of investigation, the deceased was identified by the complainant as his wife.
The IO also mentioned that the deceased was found dead on a roadside at Thiyam Chingjin with blood on her nostrils and a cloth (checked with pink and white) about 5 feet in length was found tightened around her neck.
The IO continued that the accused woman Amubi was also found sitting in an unusual manner at the incident site and on examination, she said that she came with the deceased on the moped to demand some money which had been borrowed by one of her friends.
On examination of some witnesses present at the incident site who stated that they suspect L Amubi of having killed the deceased in conspiracy with some of her associates, Amubi was arrested from the spot, the IO informed adding that on further examination Amubi revealed that Sumati was killed by one Md Wahid (43) of Top Khongnangkhong and his associate, who were hired/contracted by her.
She also disclosed that she conspired with her husband for the crime.
The IO submitted that L Indrajit was trying to conceal facts during the interrogation and as such, prayed for remanding both individuals into police custody.
The Duty Magistrate, satisfied with the police prayer, remanded them to police custody till July 2 .
On the other hand, a JAC was formed by the locals of the deceased woman and the JAC submitted a memorandum to the authority concerned through their local MLA.
