Imphal, June 25 2011: A man in his early 40s has been thrashed to death by infuriated villagers, for allegedly trying to outrage modesty of a young girl.

According to a police report, the incident took place at around 6 pm yesterday at near Hundung Junction in Ukhrul district.

It is said that Chansui Luithui (42) of Langtang village, also in Ukhrul district, was caught red-handed by some villagers trying to rape a 13-year old girl, who was kidnapped from her village and taken to the Ukhrul Central Jail premises (now abandoned).

After rounding up the alleged culprit and bringing him back to Hundung Junction, Luithui was thrashed to death by the villagers.

In connection with the incident, Ukhrul police have pulled up three persons suspected to be involved in the thrashing of Luithui.
