A community hall constructed newly with Tribal Development fund at Senapati village at Senapati district headquarters was inaugurated and dedicated to the local people by Tribal Development Minister DD Thaisii yesterday.
Being one of the oldest and most populous village, Senapati district took its name from Senapati village.
Known for their integrity and industriousness, people of Senapati village were overjoyed at seeing the community hall constructed by the Government with TD fund.
Speaking at the inaugural function yesterday, the villagers expressed firm belief that the Government would take up more welfare and development programmes in their area.
The inaugural function was also attended by Education Minister L Jayantakumar, Hill Areas Committee Chairman Thangminlen Kipgen, Transport Director BK Sharma, MACS Deputy Director Abhiram and district level officers.
Speaking at the occasion, Thangminlen Kipgen lamented the act of burning down DD Thaisii's house.
He said that the 20 MLAs representing hill constituencies gave consent to holding ADC elections so that Autonomous District Councils can be revived after a gap of more than 20 years.
The MLAs gave their consent to holding ADC elections with a view on welfare of the public.
Stating that the MLAs had no intention of inciting one group against another when they gave their assent to holding ADC elections, the ADC Chairman asserted that what the 20 MLAs did would certainly benefit hill people.
Comparing the nomenclatures of Naga and Kuki as dresses worn by mankind, he asserted that there cannot be separate paradise for Meiteis, Nagas and Kukis.
Manipur can march ahead on the path of development and progress only when different communities living in the State share a common bond of love and fraternity, he added.
Education Minister L Jayantakumar said that the due process is underway to make Government Aided Junior High School, Senapati a full fledged Government school.
Moreover, a Cabinet decision would be adopted soon to give regular employment to all employees of DIET Centre, Senapati district as per an instruction from the Ministry of Human Resource Development, Jayantakumar said.
Under the Government's policy to set up a polytechnic in each district, necessary sanctions have been made for Senapati and Bishnupur districts.
Construction works would be initiated soon.
