Imphal, January 24 2018:
Categorically stating that the people of WESEA and Manipur need not participate in the Indian Republic Day celebration, the CorCom has called 18 hours general strike with effect from 12 midnight of January 25 till 6 pm of January 26 .
A statement issued by CorCom media coordinator Ksh Yoiheiba alleged that the ideas of republic and democracy were twisted since the days of the formation of India.
The princely States of Manipur (Kangleipak), Kashmir, Travancore (Kerala), Jodhpur, Bhopal, Hyderabad, Junagadh did not join the Indian Union on their own will but they were forced to join the India Union.
India adopted double-standard when it came to alleged annexation of Princely States.
In princely States ruled by Muslim rulers where the Hindus were majority, the Government of India asserted that the wish of the majority people was the supreme.
At the same time, in Muslim-majority States ruled by Hindu kings, the Government of India maintained that the words of the Hindu kings were paramount.
In the entire South East Asia, Manipur witnessed the first election based on universal adult franchise in March 1948 after enacting its own Constitution.
By that time India had not yet adopted any Constitution.
The way king Bodhachandra was forced to sign the Merger Agreement under duress at Shillong violated all international laws and democratic principles.
The repressive measures unleased by the Government of India are terrifying.
Recently, the Punjab Documentation and Advocacy Project reported that more than 8000 people lost their lives in extra-judicial killings in Punjab between 1985 and 1995 .
In Manipur, more than 1500 people have lost their lives in extra-judicial killings, the committee alleged.
The European Union even adopted a resolution on May 11, 2011 categorically stating that the Indian Army has been violating human rights in Kashmir.
Now, Hindu fundamentalists, under the stewardship of RSS and Sangh Parivar have been trying to dictate the people in such areas as one's food habit, language and culture.
They have been waging a demographic and cultural warfare in WESEA and the region has been severely affected.
The Government has been working to settle Hindu Bangladeshis in WESEA by introducing the NRC (Amendment) Bill 2016.Given such diabolic policies, the people of Manipur ought to not participate in the Indian Republic Day celebrations, it alleged.
Appealing to all the people to boycott the Indian Republic day, the CorCom informed that religious functions, medical services and other emergency services would be exempted from the purview of the general strike.
