The 15th Loktak Day was celebrated today at Komlakhong Ireima ground and Thanga separately under the same theme "Save Loktak, Save Life" .
The opening of the celebration at Komlakhong Ireima was marked by a rally marched with slogans to make aware people of the need of saving the lake.
Education minister L Jayentakumar graced the celebration function as chief guest which was presided over by MLA Dr Kh Ratankumar.
MLA and chairman of Manipur Pollution Control Board, E Dwijamani, project director of Loktak Development Authority (LDC) and CO of 33 Assam Rifles, colonel Bharadwaj attended as guests of honour.
A two-minute silence was observed at the opening function to pay respects to late Ningthoukhongjam Radhakanta remembering his role in the effort to save the biggest fresh water lake in the entire north eastern region of the country.
Speaking as chief guest, education minister, L Jayentakumar stressed the need for saving the lake asserting the importance of the lake in the social and the cultural identity of the state and its links with the history of the state.
He also recalled the role that had to be taken part by the people residing in and around the lake.
The celebration of the day at Thanga was organized by the Loktak Lake Development Organisation in association with LDA and K Pro Infra Works Private Limited.
The celebration was held in two sessions.
MLA T Mangibabu graced the second session of the celebration as chief guest.
