Khongjom Day observed

Iramdam Meeyamgi Apunba Khorjei Lup (IMAKHOL), Awang Potsangbam observed the 3rd 'Khongjom Laan Ningshing Thouram amasung Khongjom Laan Sheitha-Sheireng Khonjel' today at the hall of Manipur Hindi Parishad, Old Assembly Road, Imphal.
In a statement, IMAKHOL shared that the function was attended by Longjam Joychandra, former director of JNM Dance Academy, Chingangbam Chandrakala, president IMAKHOL and Dilip Konjengbam, social worker and Managing Director of Heingang Micro Finance as presidium members.
They led the gathering in offering prayers and paying a floral tribute to the ancestors who made the supreme sacrifice in the battle of Khongjom.
Chingangbam Chandrakala also led in commencing the poetry tribute by presenting a poem.
Other literary groups and members of IMAKHOL also joined in the poetry tribute, as around 50 people presented poems in honour of the battle of Khongjom and the brave soldiers who lost their lives in the battlefield.
Altogether, around 100 people participated in the day's event.
In a separate event, Department of Library and Information Science, Manipur University and Ek Bharat Shreshtha Bharat (EBSB) Cell, Manipur University also organised a one-day symposium on 'Role of book in national development' as part of their observance of Khongjom Day and World Book and Copyright Day today at the premises of the department.
The function was also held in connection with the celebration of India's Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav.
On the occasion, floral tribute was paid on the photograph of Paona Brajabashi by around 40 participants of the function.
Aside from this, a 2-minute silence was also observed in honour of the departed souls who laid down their lives in the Anglo-Manipur war of 1891 .
Speaking on the occasion, Dr H Ajit Singh, faculty of Dept of Ancient History and Archaeology stressed on the significance of observing Khongjom Day while Dr Ch Ibohal Singh spoke on Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav and the importance of World Book & Copyright Day.
The event was attended by Dr O Ranjit Singh, HoD, Ancient History and Archaeology, Dr Ch Ibohal Singh, HoD, Library and Information Science and Nodal Officer of EBSB Cell, MU.
Separately, a one-day symposium on 'Reflections of Khongjom War and poetic tribute to martyrs" was held today at JNM Dance Academy, organised by the Academy in assocaition with Sahitya Akademi New Delhi and Aseilup Manipur.
The event was attended by Mihir Sahoo, Programme Officer, Sahitya Akademi Kolkata, N Kirankumar, Convenor, Manipuri Advisory Board Sahitya Akademi, Dillip M, president Aseilup.
