KSO, Delhi-NCR condemns gang rape, demands exemplary punishment

Kuki Students' Organization, Delhi and National Capital Region has today strongly condemned the gang rape of two minor girls on April 14 .
In a statement, KSO, Delhi-NCR president Thangrijoy Baite said that while respecting the cultural and religious diversity of the State, it came as a shock to the minds of the people that such brutal and shameless act was carried out in the midst of a well organized festivity.
Conveying solidarity to the victims and their families, it also applauded the responsibilities taken up by various civil society organizations and the swift action taken by the Police Department.
"Manipur, being a land of diverse communities and ethnic backgrounds, it is important to come together against such distasteful anti-social elements that could mar the bond of social fabric", the statement said.
"It is also crucial to handle the situation with a careful deliberation and prompt action to avoid recurrence of such incident in future", he added.
Demanding justice for the two victims at the earliest in order to rehabilitate them, the student body also demanded stringent punishment for the culprits.
"After having committed such major crime, the mere reason of the culprits being minor should in no way be a pretext of lessening the degree of punishment", it said and appealed to make it an exemplary punishment to deter recurrence of the same in future.
On the other hand, sit-in against the gang rape of two teenage girls was staged at Keishampat Keisham Leikai community hall today.
One of the protesters Sonia Nepram said that such heinous crime against the teenage girls is highly condemnable and the incident should not be taken lightly.
Demanding justice for the victims and the family members, she added that the authority concerned should take up stringent action and punish the culprits according to law.
