Awareness campaign for protecting Amur Falcon underway

As part of month long campaign for protecting Amur falcon, an awareness camp was held at Khangchiulon village, Tamenglong yesterday.
The camp was organised by Rainforest Club under the aegis of Tamenglong Forest Division.
The camp was attended by Dr Suresh Kumar Scientist E of Wildlife Institute of India, Dehradun, Kh Hitler RFO, Tamenglong, BG Thuanku, Chairman, Khangchiulon, Gaisui president of Rainforest Club, village authority and researchers.
Many resource persons spoke on the benefit of Amur falcon as bio-pest controller.
Amur falcon is not a species of one country.
They migrate year round.
They travel 22,000 km covering Russia, Mongolia, China, Myanmar and NE India including Manipur and Nagaland, Somalia and other South African countries," said experts.
India is a signatory of CMS pledging to protect all migratory birds.
The village authority had banned airguns last year to protect the bird.
