Imphal, June 22 2020:
MPCC has asked if there is a separate COVID-19 guideline for BJP and Congress leaders which is different from the guidelines applied to the common people quarantined in connection with the contagion.
Speaking to media persons at Congress Bhavan here today, MPCC vice-president Dr Kh Ratankumar rejected BJP general secretary Ram Madhav's statement which implied that AICC general secretary Gaurav Gogoi and former Union Minister Ajay Maken were forcibly put under quarantine soon after their arrival at Imphal airport.
Before the two Congress leaders landed at Imphal airport on June 19, they obtained due permission from the Government apart from fulfilling all the formalities and protocol.
"Moreover, permission was obtained from the airport to land their chartered flight at Imphal and I went to the airport to receive them in strict conformity to the COVID-19 protocol", Dr Ratankumar said.
Without meeting anyone at the airport, the two Congress leaders went straight to Hotel Imphal where their rooms were booked in advance.
Since then, they have been quarantining themselves at Hotel Imphal.
They are also being provided security guards by the Government, he said.
It is rather unfortunate that Ram Madhav was saying the two Congress leaders were put under quarantine for not adhering to the COVID-19 protocol, he said.
The MPCC vice-president alleged that the words 'truthfulness' and 'justice' have no meaning to BJP and what matters to them is only realisation of their objectives.
BJP leader Himanta Biswa Sarma who arrived at Imphal yesterday and Chief Minister N Biren's advisor Rajat Sethi who arrived at Imphal on June 18 did not follow any of the COVID-19 guidelines.
Asking if the people who met Himanta Biswa Sarma and Rajat Sethi have been quarantined, Dr Ratankumar said that MPCC strongly condemns such sectarian and defiant attitude of BJP.
He demanded the Health Department to find out whether Himanta Biswa Sarma and Rajat Sethi followed the COVID-19 protocol when they visited Imphal.
