IMC employees felicitate new councillors

Imphal, June 22 2011:
The Imphal Municipal Employees' Union today felicitated the recently elected councillors of the Imphal Municipal Council in a function held at its office.
Speaking at the felicitation function, IMC Executive Officer, W Bhaktaraj recalled that due to insincerity in discharging their duties by councillors and the lack of a work led to the present condition of the IMC.
There is also lack of cooperation among the employees of the council and disregard of superior officers by lower ranked staff.
Further speaking on the occasion, Bhaktaraj stressed on the need for revision of tax rates being collected by the IMC.
The taxes have not been revised for the last 20 years, he added.
He also asserted that there are many sectors in which IMC could not levy taxes despite government orders.
He recalled that the previous councillors had several meetings to improve the condition of the council but no conclusive decisions were made.
Councillors of both the ruling and opposition sides should support plans, if was meant for the betterment of the council, he asserted.
As per by-law of the council, the meeting of the standing committee is to be held on the 25th of every month and councillors are to be informed well ahead of the scheduled meeting.
Elected chairman of the present council, N Raghumani, speaking on the occasion, observed that led to the inability to pay salaries of the employees for months.
He believed if the tax collection is improved the council can operate on its own resources without depending on funds provided by the government.
He assured that salaries of two pending months will be paid at the earliest.
He urged for cooperation from the employees as well as the councillors for a smooth functioning of the IMC.
Salam Rajen, former Executive Officer of the IMC, Dr A Arunkumar, Health Officer, Engineering Officer Th Iboyaima, L Mohendro, Deputy Senior Officer, and N Rajendrakumar, Account Officer, of the IMC were among others who attended the function.
