ADGP C Peter Ngahanyui passes away

Additional Director General of Police (ADGP) C Peter Ngahanyui has passed away this morning at his Lamlongei, Mantripukhri residence due to multiple illness.
Peter left behind his wife, two sons and a daughter.
The IPS officer had reportedly been battling against diabetes and heart problems for past many months and had only recently returned home after undergoing treatment in Mumbai.
Condolence service of C Peter, who breathed his last at around 5.30 am today, will be conducted tomorrow at his private residence at 9 am.
Born on February 12, 1952 to (L) C Paul Yuishi of Awongtang village in Ukhrul district, Peter's illustrious service career began as a lecturer in English before he joined the police service as SDPO, Chandel in 1978. Apart from serving as the SP of Ukhrul, Tamenglong and Bishnupur districts and SP(CID)and CMTW in between 1979 and 1987 he was also Commandant of different Manipur Rifles battalions in the said period.
After a stint as the Deputy Resident Commissioner, Delhi from 1987 to 1988, Peter assumed the charge of DIGP Training, CID, Administration as well as Managing Director of MPHC.
The first IPS officer among the Tangkhuls, Peter was promoted as IGP in 1995, ADGP in 1998 and also served as the Chief Security Commissioner of Railways Protection Force, Guwahati on deputation.
The Ukhrul District Sports Association has deeply condoled the demise of the senior IPS officer.
A condolence meeting of the executive council of UDSA was held today wherein the contribution of C Peter towards the development of sports in the district was remembered.
Members present also observed a two minute silence to pay respect to the departed soul.
Zeliangrong Union (Assam, Manipur & Nagaland) has also deeply condoled the untimely demise of C Peter.
The demise of Peter, the first IPS officer from the Tangkhul community and first ADGP amongst the tribal in the State of Manipur, is a great loss for the people of Manipur and the vacuum caused by his death will be hard to fill in the days to come, expressed a condolence message of the Union.
Praying for peaceful rest of departed soul in the heavenly abode, the Union also conveyed its solidarity to the bereaved family members.
