Imphal, August 21 2020:
Kuki National Front (KNF), Tactical Headquarter, has written to the Chief Minister seeking permission for setting up a designated camp at the Leimatak Powerhouse area.
KNF, which is a SoO (suspension of operation) party under KNO, stated that Leimatak area, more than 100 km away from Chongkhojou Horep Camp, is under its jurisdiction.
However, since the beginning of 2018, some non SoO groups have sprung up in the area and have been carrying out anti-social activities including extortion and demanding ransom in the Leimatak area.
But there has been no action nor FIR filed in connection with these incidents, KNF said while requesting the Chief Minister to look into the matter and take a befitting step for installing peace and harmony in the region and consider its appeal for a designated camp.
Setting up of the designated camp in accordance with the guidelines of the SoO agreement will ensure long lasting peace and tranquility in the region, it claimed.
It also urged to dismiss all "wrong" charges levelled against the outfit by Khongsai Youth Union for the "corrective" actions taken by its cadres for safeguarding and protecting the general public in the operational area.
