Tree plantation drives held

Rotary Club of Imphal organised a mass tree plantation program at Babina Multi Speciality Hospital, Sajiwa, Imphal East today where 172 avenue trees and fruit bearing trees were planted.
According to a press release issued by Saratchandra Phijam, president, Rotary Club of Imphal the tree plantation programme was organised on the theme 'Save Mother Earth' as a continuing community service project of the club.
On the occasion, Saratchandra Singh said that the club has been planting trees across the state every year and appealed everyone to plant trees to save our environment.
"Trees make the environment cleaner and provide us with oxygen.
The main purpose of tree plantation is to save the environment and to beautify our surroundings.
Trees are valuable gifts of nature.
They benefit us in various ways.
Today's programme will make areas around the hospital cleaner and fill with fresh air" he said.
The program ended with a breakfast sponsored by former Rotary Club president Dr Dhabali.
Separately, as part of Irabot Foundation's ongoing campaign titled "Pukkei Cholhallo Loumi", a tree plantation drive of fruit bearing trees was conducted at Yangkheinithoi Maril at Wabagai.
The drive was carried out in association with Kakching District Irabot Foundation Manipur.
Saplings of lemon, orange, banana and dragon fruit etc were planted today.
The drive was led by Kh Gopen, president, Irabot Foundation Manipur and accompanied by Elangbam Somorendra, president, Kakching District Irabot Foundation Manipur and secretary Ningombam Yaima as well as other members.
On the occasion, Kh Gopen urged the locals to take care of the saplings and ensure their survival and growth.
He also extended his gratitude to the State Horticulture and Soil Conservation Director K Debadutta Sharma for helping Irabot Foundation in its tree plantation campaign.
