Imphal, April 20 2022:
Pangal Street Vendors Association (PSVA), Manipur has come out strongly against the excessive use of force by police personnel in dispersing the street vendors in and around Khwairamband Bazar and causing destruction to their wares or seizing their goods and has appealed for an end to such acts.
In a statement, PSVA also urged the State administration to bring about a permanent solution with regard to the street vendors and their grievances.
PSVA alleged that police personnel had told street vendors in Khwairamband Keithel that they were not allowed to sell their products in the area and instructed them to move to Lamphel Super Market after 8 am.
PSVA stated that previously, the street vendors had followed this direction and began selling their wares at Lamphel Super Market.
However, the lack of buyers in the area forced them to return to Khwairamband Keithel.
As such, the Association has called for the State Government's supervision on the matter and cautioned against any future excessive use of force on the street vendors by police personnel.
