Imphal, January 20 2025:
Pune Ganesh Mandals in collaboration with Pune Parivar which is renowned for their community-oriented initiatives, have come forward to assist citizens in Manipur who are taking refuge at shelters due to the ongoing ethnic unrest.
The Pune Parivar and the Ganesh Mandals, traditionally involved in promoting social welfare during the Ganesh Chaturthi festival, have expanded their charitable efforts beyond their localities by providing essential aid to the displaced people in the North-Eastern state of Manipur.
About sixty thousand internally displaced persons (IDPs) are living in temporary shelters due to the ongoing violence in Manipur.
In a spirit of cooperation, more than 35 Ganesh Mandals in Pune have come together and, in collaboration with other social organisations and individuals, will provide almost 5.000 blankets and 2,000 sets of food utensils to the IDPs.
The relief materials were distributed in an event organised by Pune Parivar Sanstha at the Maratha Chamber of Commerce on Tilak Road.
The event was graced by dignitaries, including Swami Govinddev Giri Ji Maharaj, Treasurer, Shri Ram Janmabhoomi Teerth Kshetra Trust; Union Minister of State for Civil Aviation and Cooperative, Muralidhar Mohol; MP Medha Kulkarni and senior journalist Vijay Kuvalekar Rajesh Sawhney (member, ISHAN SETU Trust).
Rajesh Sawhney said, "Many citizens have been badly impacted in the unfortunate violence in Manipur while thousands of people have been displaced.
Therefore, with the feeling that the citizens there are our brothers and sisters, the Pune Parivar, Ganesh Mandals and ISHAN SETU Trust have taken the initiative to help our brothers and sisters in Manipur".
Notably, Thounaojam Shyamkumar Singh, MLA Assembly Constituency, was also present at the event to receive the support on behalf of the people of Manipur.
