Imphal, November 19 2021: Aspiring candidate for the 12th State Assembly election from Wangkhei Constituency Arunkumar Thangjam has on Friday announced that he would join the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) shortly.

He made the announcement during a felicitation ceremony of ace footballer Oinam Bembem Devi who received Padma Shri award recently.

Speaking at the felicitation function held at Chingmeirong Mamang Leikai, Arunkumar stated that he took time in formally announcing the decision due to some personal problems and not because of having issues with the party.

"It is too early to comment on whether I would support BJP if the party ticket is given to some other person," he said and added that he would consult with the people first before taking any decision.

He also lauded the BJP-led Government for launching different schemes for the welfare of the people.

Later, the intending candidate distributed PMJAY cards to 240 persons in the constituency.

Arunkumar Thangjam resigned from Manipur Pradesh Congress Committee (MPCC) on September 3 last.
