A nodal officer of the Central Government arrived here today to take stock of the preventive measures taken up by the State Government against COVID-19 pandemic.
Soon after his arrival, nodal officer and Ministry of Power Joint Secretary VK Dewangan held a meeting with State Government officials.
The meeting held in the Old Secretariat conference hall deliberated on the steps taken up by the State Government to prevent transmission and spread of COVID-19 in the State and the meeting was participated by officials of different departments.
The Central Government sent the nodal officer following strong suspicion that the COVID-19 situation may grow worse across the country in the coming days, informed a source.
State Government officials apprised the nodal officer about the several measures taken up by the State Government to combat COVID-19.The nodal officer would make a direct assessment of the isolation wards opened at RIMS and JNIMS as well as quarantine facilities, informed the source.
The nodal officer would stay at Imphal for a week and assess the measures taken up by the State Government against the pandemic and he would work to make up all the loopholes and lapses, if there are any, according to the source.
Meanwhile, the State Health Department has initiated necessary measures to keep all those people who come to the State from abroad and other parts of India affected by COVID-19 under self-isolation.
Even as Jiribam district administration considered about quarantining 25 people who came to Jiribam from Bangladesh today, all of them have been allowed to enter Jiribam district on their assurance that they would remain in self-isolation at their respective homes, informed the source.
