Licypriya Kangujam to address opening ceremony of Mock COP26 UK

Imphal, November 18 2020: Nine years old Indian climate activist & founder of the Child Movement Licypriya Kangujam will address the opening ceremony of Mock.COP26 UK on November 19 at 12 pm (London Time) via video conference along with UN Secretary General's envoy on youth Jayathma Wickramanayake.

Young climate activists from 118 countries will attend the conference to fill the void of the postponed United Nations Climate Conference 2020 - COP26 from November 19 to December 1 .

The two-week event will be comprised of empowering and informative keynotes and panels by global names and youth activists, followed by high-level opening statements by the youth delegates and facilitated workshops and regional caucuses.

The discussions have been framed around five conference themes: climate justice; education; health and mental health; green jobs; carbon reduction targets.

Licypriya will highlight various climate crises and the challenges in India and the Global South.

She also will tell the world leaders around the world the importance of strengthening climate legislation in their countries to protect environment.

The event will culminate in a powerful conference statement to world leaders from the youths of the world, raising ambition for COP26.The event will subsequently support and mentor delegates to engage their domestic politicians in the year to COP26.Licypriya said, "Mock COP26 will send a strong message to our world leaders to take concrete actions to save our planet and our future.

Delayed in their actions increase the threat to our future and I'm very disappointed to see their silent nature on the global climate crisis.

This is the time for climate action, not just climate talk.

If we don't know how to fix our nature then we should stop breaking it.

"India and many parts of Asia are facing floods, droughts, heat waves, cyclones, typhoons, air pollution, etc.

at the same time.

These are all the impacts of climate change.

We warned our leaders in advance but they didn't listen to us.

This is not the time for blaming each other.

This is the time to fight together to save our planet before it's too late", she added.

She further said, "I want to see the world free from fossil fuel vehicles on roads and replace it all by solar or electric vehicles.

I want bicycle lanes in all roads of the world, more green spaces in our cities and shut down all coal and thermal power plants and replace it with clean renewable energy.

Planting trees, cutting down emissions and protecting our nature are the ultimate solutions to the climate crisis" .
