DGAR trucks allegedly involved in Teak smuggling

Imphal, November 18 2011:
Personnel of Director General of Assam Rifles (DGAR) are allegedly involved in the smuggling of fully loaded trucks of Teak woods illegally brought from Moreh and intended to be ferried out of the state.
Highly reliable source has revealed that six civilian trucks which were fully loaded with Teak woods were ferried from Moreh on November 15.The trucks reached Imphal in the evening and halted the night at the AR Transit Camp at Minuthong in the evening.
The whole thing was done under the guidance and directions of the Staff Officer (SO)1 of DGAR based in Shillong, revealed the highly reliable source.
The next day, ie on November 16 the fully loaded trucks were unloaded and again loaded in six trucks of DGAR by the personnel of 31 AR.
The registration numbers of the six DGAR trucks which were involved in the smuggling incident are NL 11 1829, NL 05E 1250, AS 11 AC 0325, NL 11 1541, MN 01 8371, ML 05D 9738 .
Then again the next day, the loaded AR trucks were ferried along with the convoy of the 31 AR to wards Dimapur along NH 39, the source said.
The source further revealed that when the AR convoy reached Kangpokpi, one of the fully loaded six trucks broke down.
The convoy left the broken down truck on the way and proceeded further.
The whole scene was witnessed by the locals of Kangpokpi and subsequently one of them informed about the incident to IGAR (S) .
After receiving reports that a fully loaded AR truck with Teak wood which came along with an AR convoy had broken down on the way at Kangpokpi and the convoy has left the place with another five loaded trucks of Teak woods, IGAR (S), on the same day sent an officer along with a team of personnel to pick up the truck.
At the same time the AR convoy that left with the five truckloads of Teak wood was apprehended at Maram by personnel of 5 AR, the source added.
The highly reliable official source further revealed that while the apprehended trucks were being driven back to Imphal another loaded truck broke down near Senapati.
The convoy halted the night at 5 AR in Senapati.
Today IGAR (S) took the apprehended trucks from 5AR and proceeded towards Imphal.
It reached Imphal at 1:30 this afternoon.
The loaded trucks were further taken to the 26 Sector HQ at Pallel and further enquiry is going on, revealed the source.
When Hueiyen Lanpao contacted the CO of 5 AR and enquired about the incident, he declined to comment saying he is not empowered to do so, the PRO IGAR also declined to shed any light on the incident when contacted, his reply,"no comment" .
The source further said that this was not the first time such incidents have happen, it had happen a number of times during the last six months.
The whole incident is being investigated.
