'RLI scheme still functional'

Imphal, March 18 2021: Wangoo Sandangkhong River Lift Irrigation (RLI) Scheme under Kakching district is functioning normally, said Minor Irrigation Department's Chief Engineer H Brajendro.

Inspecting the RLI scheme yesterday, he said the scheme is providing water to fields in Wangoo Sandangkhong Heeram Makha Loukol and Sabam Loukol.

He visited the facility with media persons after farmers through media appealed the authorities concerned to make the scheme functional.

The scheme uses one electric motor and an diesel (engine) motor to pump water to the fields.

Even though the electric motor is not functioning, the irrigation scheme is still functional with the diesel engine, he said witnessing the diesel engine in work.

On the irrigation system, he said the Department understands the farmers desire to improvement the irrigation canal.

However, construction of pucca canal requires huge amount of funds and this issue may be addressed by including a suitable project in the work programme.

Wangoo Gram Panchayat Ward Member Laishram Deban was also present during the inspection.
