Imphal, April 17 2020: In view of the COVID-19 situation and the extended lockdown, social worker Ayangbam Oken has appealed the State Government to provide free ration and other edible items to every poor family in the State.

The social worker who contested the recent Manipur Legislative Assembly election in Sekmai Assembly Constituency said that he is considering to provide edible items to at least 10,000 households of the Constituency.

Saying that the process of distributing edibles began today at his residence near Sekmai bottling plant, he added that the distributed items include rice, dal, potatoes and salt among others.

He also appealed to the State Government to release the allocated rice and other edible items for Sekmai AC on time as most of the people in the Constituency are poor to ensure effective implementation of lockdown.

Edibles were also distributed to around 1400 households under Wangjing Gram Panchayat by Wangjing Tentha Zilla Parishad Member Kh Manisang at her capacity at Wangjing Tekcham Leikai.

On the sideline of the distribution programme, Kh Priojit, a nominee of the ZP Member, urged the Government to provide an additional fund to Panchayati Raj Institution so that members in the institute could extend more help to the people facing hardships due to the lockdown.

Social Welfare Sporting Club, Kakching also doled out 2 bags of rice, 8 kg dal, 6 kg of edible oil to Mission Blind School, Heikrakpokpi with an aim to ease the shortage of rations due to the lockdown.

Distribution of edible items was also carried out at Khongjom Sapam Chinga Leikai and Sabal Leikai under Wanjing Tentha Kendra and Laiphrakpam with the contributions made by social workers and local body representatives in their respective areas.

Benjamin Mate extends relief materials
Vice president of BJP Manipur, Benjamin Mate also came out to support the people at Moreh by distributing rice, potatoes and other relief materials on account of the lockdown.

The materials were distributed through community leaders who also thanked him for his charitable work during such a hard time.

Autonomous District Council Chandel's member Goutinlam@ Lamboi, members of BJP Tengnoupal Mandal, community leaders, members of KSO Moreh, KWU & HR were present during the distribution programme, reports our correspondent.

Tengnoupal DC, M Rajkumar; SP Tengnoupal, Th Vikramjit; ASP (OPS) Moreh, M Amit and ASP (OPS) Tengnoupal Th Krishnatombi also handed out rice, dal, potatoes and edible oils to residents at Chalwa village, Cananphai village, Kwatha Khunjao village and Kwatha Khunou village yesterday.

Same items were also distributed to migrant workers residing at Moreh.

Mungchan Zimik: Edmund distributes food items
Executive Member of Ukhrul Autonomous District Council, Edmund Chiphang distributed food items including potatoes and salt to the residents of Ukhrul town today to ensure people remain at home during the ongoing Nationwide lockdown.

The distribution of essential food items to over 1000 households in 10 localities of Ukhrul town, was done with strict adherence to the safety measures laid down by the Government, in order to prevent transmission of disease.

It might be mentioned that the residents of Ukhrul have been facing acute shortage of food grains with the enforcement of total lockdown.

In the meantime, Ukhrul Hill Development Foundation (UHDF) and Mikpingla Industries (MPI) have also joined the charitable work by distributing free rice, sugar, mustard oil and biscuits to the residents of Huishu village.

The items were distributed through village authorities led by the headman, Ngarek Shimray in the presence of Ningchui Shatsang, managing director of UHDF and MPI.

The village headman also expressed gratitude to Ningchui for his philanthropy work during such a crucial juncture.

Rice distributed in Khurai AC
Doing his bit to relieve the shortage of rice during the ongoing lockdown, social worker Laitonjam Jayananda has started distributing rice to households in Khurai Assembly Constituency.

Rice, sufficient enough to allocate 3 kg each to 13,000 households in the AC, was brought from Guwahati.

The rice was formally handed over to Pradhans, Ward Members of different Gram Panchayats and local club/ organisations across the AC, today at the residence of the social worker at Khurai Konsam Leikai.

The social worker also promised to continue providing water to the localities facing a shortage of water apart from conducting extensive sanitization programme in the AC.

He also expressed gratitude to all concerned for helping in distributing the rice to the people affected by the lockdown.

Social Youth United Club, Uchekon has also distributed 5 kg rice and 2 kg potatoes each to around 260 households of Uchekon Khunou Area.

The materials were donated by Dr Th Devraj and his family in the name of Late Thokchom Ongbi Ksh Ranjita Devi.

Meanwhile, Lilong AC MLA, Abdul Nasir has also distributed rice to residents at Lilong Chingjao Area.

20 kg of rice was distributed to bit more backward families while 10 kg of rice was distributed to families with better condition, said a statement issued by Lilong Local Essential Commodities Distribution Committee.

Moirang Block Congress Committee starts extending help
Moirang Block Congress Committee has also initiated distribution of edibles to the residents in the Moirang Assembly Constituency, with contributions made by former MLA M Prithviraj Singh, Congress Councillors and former Councillors of Moirang Municipal Council.

The noble work was launched by distributing potatoes, onions, salt and cooking oil to the residents of Moirang Municipal Council Ward No 5 in the presence of Councillor of the Ward, Ph Madhavi and members of Moirang Block Congress Committee, Moirang Assembly Youth Congress and Moirang Block Mahila Congress Committees.

The distribution work will be continued phase by phase until it covers the entire AC, reports our correspondent.

The former MLA also lauded the Chief Minister for the initiative to allocate Rs 25 lakh from Local Area Development fund of each ACs, for the welfare of the people in their respective AC during the ongoing lockdown.

He also promised all possible help from his side in fighting against the COVID-19 and urged everyone to stand together and follow the safety guidelines issued by the authorities concerned.

Meanwhile, Young girls of Nambol Chingmang Khori Leikai have also extended food items to 260 families from the fund they had collected to organise "Thabal" .

Apart from it, hand sanitizer, surgical masks and packaged drinking water for Police personnel who are working relentlessly to enforce the lockdown, were also handed over to Nambol Police, OC K Subhaschandra.
