2-days orientation training programme on IPM held

CIPMC, Imphal conducted a two-days HRD on Integrated Pest Management (IPM) Orientation Training programme in collaboration with PESCH NGO's and Farmer Producer Organization (FPO), Jiribam, Manipur at Sibilong Village, Tousem Sub-division, Tamenglong district on Feb 13 & 14 .
A total of 57 fanners trainees participated in the HRD Training Programme.
Officer-in-Charge, Dr Adam Kamei, PPO (PP) address the gathering on behalf of CIPMC, Imphal and brief about the importance of IPM in mitigating pest and diseases by using bio-pesticides and bio-control agents, Pheromone traps, Blue and Yellow sticky traps and Neem botanical extracts to reduce the application of harmful chemical pesticide which will result in Good agricultural practices(GAP) to promote export in future and using of NPSS mobile app to help farmers in identification of field crops pest and diseases.
Suam Kamei Chairman Sibilong Village, chief guest of inaugural, encouraged the trainees' need for adoption of IPM as a tool of growing organic crops in their areas.
Sh Thiamreilung Rongmei, Program Coordinator of PESCH, Jiribam, president of the function, Akhuan Kamei and Ditung Kuame, Technical team of Farmer Producer Organization(FPO) and Dr Pavan Sabbithi, Assistant Professor, School of Agriculture Sciences (SAS), Nagaland University Resource Person also attended the training programme.
On Feb 13, Dr Adam Kamei, PPO(PP) covered the effective utilization of NPSS apps, Identification of insect pests and diseases and natural enemies of fields crops and vegetables Citrus plant.
Field visit in Chili crops was carried out in group wise to collect Insects and disease samples.
Dr Pavan Sabbithi lectured on identification of pest and beneficial insects, installation of pheromone traps, preparation of sticky traps Yellow/Blue.
Field exercise was carried out groupwise to study Agro EcoSystem Analysis (AESA) on Chilli and to make decisions in pest management effectively.
The subsequent day of training had brief discussion on using Neem oil extract and locally available resources botanical extract for spraying in alternative to chemical pesticides which prevent in building up insecticide resistance, safe and judicious use of pesticides.
Dr Kamei PPO also delivered a lecture on preparation and methodology on vermi-composting to enhance soil fertility by Dr Kamei PPO and also encouraged on mushroom cultivation for generation of additional farmers income.
Dr Pavan also demonstrated how to prepare Pheromone traps, Blue and Yellow sticky traps for locally available to farmers.
He also stressed on safe disposal of pesticide containers, rules and regulation of pesticide purchasing.
