Hospital committee, CSOs threaten to impose general strike over unmet demands

The District Hospital Monitoring Committee and CSOs of Jiribam have threatened to impose a 24-hour general strike across the district from the midnight of January 17 if their demands are not met by January 17 .
Their demands include upgradation of Jiribam District Hospital to the status of a full-fledged hospital and redressal of the shortage of doctors at the medical institute to tackle prominent issues in the health sector of the region.
A press conference was held today in this connection at Jiri Ima Meira Paibi Apunba Lup (JIMPAL) office jointly organised by the District Hospital Monitoring Committee Jiribam, WAED, WWOK.AJMP, AJPWWA, AMBSU, AJUCA, JDO, UJYL, COCOMI, WMC, RNLPM and JIMPAL.
Speaking to media persons, Phanjaobam Manteshori Devi, member, District Hospital Monitoring Committee said that despite locking the OPD of the hospital as a protest since January 5, they have not received any feedback from the relevant authorities.
As a result, the protesting CSOs and the Committee have resolved to impose a 24-hour general strike in Jiribam from the midnight of January 17 if the higher authorities fail to give them the desired response by January 17, she informed.
If the authorities continue to remain indifferept even after the 24-hour general strike, an indefinite economic blockade will be imposed from January 19 until their demands are fulfilled, added Ph Manteshori.
