Thangal Women's Union celebrates silver jubilee

Celebrating its 25th year of existence, the Thangal Women's Union (Thangal Sanui Jonlong) celebrated its silver jubilee under the theme, "Stand on your strength" at Thangal General Ecological Park, Mayangkhang.
The program was graced by L Dikho, Minister, PHED as chief guest, Ngamthang Haokip, Advisor to Chief Minister, Manipur as a guest of honour, H Khangba, Member, ADC, Sadar Hills as functional president, Kiran Kumar, DC Senapati, Somorjit Salam, DC, Kangpokpj, Rocky Tainamei, Member, ADC, Sadar Hills, YK Kaping, president, Thangal Union and Solomon Arow, president, Naga People's Organization (NPO), Senapati as special guests.
At the event, Ngamthang Haokip recalled the time when he took the initiative to erect a statue of Thangal General at Mayangkhang when he was the Forest & Environment Minister.
The advisor to CM Manipur also lamented over the pending construction work of the proposed IIIT at Mayangkhang.
Speaking as the chief guest, PHED Minister Dikho said that the role of women is very much im-portant in every society.
Mention may be made that the Thangal Women's Union was formed in 1995 to work for the upliftment and protection of women's rights, promotion, and protection of tribal customs, upliftment of Thangal tribes handloom and handicrafts and focus on bringing peace and development in the society.
President and her col leagues of the Naga Women's, Union (NWU), president and her colleagues of the Senapati District Women's Association (SDWA), different women leaders of the region including delegates from 11.Thangal Naga vil lages attended the programme.
Folk songs, cultural dances, indigenous games and traditional, shows were showcased during the programme.
