Khumbong bodies appeal for peaceful protest

Imphal West Students' Club (IWSC), Khumbong and local Meira Paibis while condemning the gun attack on innocent drivers on December 12 appealed to all to stop resorting to violent protest.
IWSC, in a statement, said that members of local clubs and Meira Paibi lups never endorse any kind of violent protest during the ongoing counter economic blockade.
The counter economic blockade launched at Khumbong Bazar is participated not only by the people of Khumbong but also by the people of surrounding villages.
To discourage the use of violence while agitating, people of Khumbong area will resort only to peaceful and democratic agitation against UNC's economic blockade.
The statement added that supporters of UNC's economic blockade in Tamenglong and Noney are allegedly checking passenger vehicles to see if any of the passengers are from Khumbong.
Any act which will create communal tension should be avoided.
As such, supporters of UNC should also refrain from using violence while imposing the economic blockade.
On the other hand, Komrem Union, Manipur (NEI) has also condemned the use of violence while imposing economic blockade and counter economic blockade.
Attacking drivers, who have been serving the people irrespective of communities, is inhumane and should be stopped immediately.
At the same time, supporters of counter economic blockade should also refrain from any act which can make the fragile situation worse, the union said.
It added that if the State Government cannot resolve the issue at the earliest, the State should be placed under President's Rule.
