Awareness campaign on PDS from today

Apart from announcing to stage dharna for two days, the All Manipur Democratic Women's Front is all set to launch an awareness campaign on matter relating to streamlining of public distribution system in the four valley districts of the State from January 15 .
Speaking to reporters today at Marxism Learning Centre, RIMS Road Soram Leirak Machin, general secretary of All Manipur Democratic Women's Front, H Ambrabati Leima said the Government has set up the Food and Civil Supplies dept in order to avail PDS items at subsidised rate to its citizens.
The dept has also categorised consumers into three classes such as the BPL, APL and AYY under which cards were issued to the consumers corresponding to their categories.
Even then, PDS items are not availed to the beneficiaries and the matter has been politicised, she said.
Against this backdrop, the All Manipur Democratic Women's Front is set to organise a demonstration and launch awareness campaign in the four valley districts� Imphal East, Imphal West, Bishnupur and Thoubal, from Jan 15, Leima said.
The campaign would begin on Jan 15 at Sekmai in Imphal West, Charangpat in Thoubal, Wangkhei in Imphal East and Nambol in Bishnupur, she informed.
The same would go on at Lamshang, Konthoujam, Khundrakpam and Lamlai on January 16 .
Speaking at the occasion, W Priyokumar lamented that the PDS items sanctioned by the Govt could not reach the targeted people while underscoring the existence of lapses in the system.
He said several resolutions should be adopted during the two-day awareness campaign and demonstration, which would be forwarded to concerned DCs of the four districts.
A collective resolution would also be submitted to the Govt of India.
Mutum Manbi, adviser of the front also attended the press meet.
