Model school at Singngat inspected

Singngat AC MLA GS Haopu, officials of Manipur Minorities and Other Backward Classes Economic Development Society (MOBEDS), Manipur Infrastructure Development Agency (MIDA) and officials of Churachandpur district administration today made a spot assessment of the model residential school and the community hall (Sadbhavna Mandop) being constructed at Singngat sub-division.
A model residential school with a total intake capacity of 400 students is being constructed at Singngat sub-divisional headquarters along with a community hall under the Ministry of Minority Affairs' Multi Sectorial Development Programme.
The project cost of the residential school is Rs 25.62 crore and the stipulated period for completing the project is 18 months.
Estimated cost of the community hall is Rs 2.1 crore and it should be completed within 18 months.
Authorities have already set a target of inaugurating the residential school and the community on the same day.
The residential model school would be run in the line of Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalaya.
MOBEDS and MIDA have been working to set up such residential model schools in seven minority districts of the State at the same time.
Once the seven residential model schools are constructed, Education Department would take them over and these schools would be run under the department.
The Government has been hoping that the seven residential schools would be able to impart quality education to children hailing from remote areas of the State, sources said.
MIDA Vice-Chairman and MLA O Lukhoi, MIDA Director P Gojen, MOBEDS Director Ng Uttam, MIDA Chief Engineer N Babuchand were among the officials who visited Singngat sub-divisional headquarters today and inspected the school and community hall construction works.
Speaking to media persons, MIDA Vice Chairman O Lukhoi said that the residential school's administrative block is being constructed in a very progressive manner.
Construction of similar residential schools in other minority districts would begin shortly, he said.
He remarked that the work progress achieved so far is satisfactory.
Adequate funds are available for the residential schools and liabilities for constructing them would be paid in time, Lukhoi said.
He then appealed to the local MLA and the contractor concerned to see that the school is constructed with due emphasis on the qualitative aspect.
Two Kasturba Gandhi Balika Vidyalayas which are also residential schools are being constructed at two other places of Churachandpur district and their work progress is also satisfactory, Lukhoi said.
MLA GS Haopu exuded confidence that construction of Singngat residential model school would be completed within the stipulated period.
Once the residential school is constructed, children from remote areas would be able to pursue formal education at Singngat sub-divisional headquarters who otherwise must go to far off places, Haopu said.
