Imphal, July 13 2019:
Terming the unfolding political crisis among the State BJP legislators despite the State reeling under drought like situation and skyrocketing of rice price as unfortunate, CPI veteran leader Dr M Nara urged legislators in the State to up their morality and work for the welfare of the people.
Speaking to reporters on the sidelines of the State Level Convention of All India Trade Union Congress (AITUC), Manipur which was held at Manipur Press Club today, Dr Nara, who is also the president of AITUC Manipur, said that the legislators in the State are working solely for personal gain.
He also said that the prevailing crisis among BJP legislators for change of leadership is quite unfortunate.
The BJP led State Government has inducted a Congress's legislator as a Minister although the latter political party is in the Opposition, Dr Nara said and questioned the validity of Anti-Defection Law in the State.
Everyone must condemn such kind of politics as it will pollute the political platform of the State, he added.
Dr Nara also spoke about the urgent need to strengthen the trade unions to boost the State's economy.
He also said that demanding wage hike for labourers cannot be the sole objective of trade unions but should also lay emphasis on electoral reforms in the State to eradicate corruption so that labourers can work under a conducive atmosphere.
Lamenting that many street vendors are being chased away by law enforcing agencies on the pretext of violating the norms set by authorities concerned, the CPI leader asked why the State Government does not allot space to the street vendors on the vacant upper floor of Ima Market.
Highlighting the role of womenfolk and women vendors in the economic activities of Manipur and developing human resource, the veteran politician said that the State will not have many doctors, engineers or and other professionals in the State if the womenfolk and women vendors in Ima market are not involve in the economic activities.
Nara then noted that the matter of allotting vendors/space to street vendors on the upper floor of Ima Market should also be a main demand of the AITUC, Manipur.
The function was also attended by many eminent personalities and members of labour associations like MU Associate Professor Dr Chinglen Meisnam, AITUC, Manipur general secretary L Sotinkumar, All Manipur Road Transport Drivers and Motor Workers Union president S Manglem.
A book entitled "1939 Nupi Lan" was also released during the convention.
