Outreach programme on advance tax / felicitation of top advance tax payers held

Additional Commissioner of Income Tax, Range-Imphal, Ng Joseph Gangte has appealed for the conversion of self-assessment tax to advance tax and to ensure that this advance tax is paid on time to avoid interest.
The statement was made by the Addl Commissioner during an outreach programme on "Advance Tax Cum Felicitation of Top Advance Tax Payers" held at Hotel Classic Grande, Chingmeirong, Imphal on June 13 .
The outreach programme was organised by Office of the Additional Commissioner of Income Tax, Range-Imphal under the aegis of Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav.
Addressing the gathering, Ng Joseph Gangte outlined the importance of tax revenue for the nation.
He added that in comparison with the total population of the country, the percentage of people who pay is still very low.
However, he stated there are a lot of avenues for tax collection even in Manipur.

The Addl Commissioner highlighted the necessity of a two-way interaction between taxpayers and the Income Tax Department in terms of guiding and motivating the taxpayers.
He maintained that such an initiative will lead to an increase in tax revenue.
He reiterated his appeal to the gathering for the conversion of self-assessment tax to advance tax and to make timely payments in order to avoid interest.
M Joychandra delivered the introductory speech and highlighted the role of taxpayers in nation building.
As a part of the programme, the top 20 taxpayers of the State were felicitated with a memento and certificate of appreciation each.
Included among the top 20 taxpayers of the State were H Rajen Singh, Managing Director M/S Raj Medicity, Sinam Pritam Singh, CEO, M/S Eastern Motors, MLA Nishikant Singh Sapam, proprietor, Sangai Express and G Shantikumari, proprietor, Poknapham.
It may be noted that the programme was aimed at targeting the low advance tax payers as well as high self-assessment tax payers and was attended by 54 persons.
