Imphal, June 13 2015 : Leimai Machal Pukei, a boutique exclusively for loin loom products, was inaugurated today at Singjamei Waikhom Leikai.

The inaugural function was graced by Gurumayum Priyobrata Sharma, Manager, North Eastern Development Finance Corporation Ltd (NEDFi), Imphal Branch, Leitanthem Jibanbala, president, Leima Thrift and Credit Co-operative Society Ltd, Omendro Singh, NEDFi and Advocate G Sunitikumar.

Speaking at the occasion, Jibanlata said, "Loin loom weaving is not widely practiced in Imphal areas as compared to the hill districts of the State.

With the opening of this boutique, we hope to promote the loin loom products and conserve the traditional form of weaving.

Moreover, we have used only scrapped fabrics to make finished products with due emphasis on its quailitative aspects.

We use scrapped fabrics which are collected from tailoring and tent houses.

However, we are keeping in mind the ways of life of various communities particularly Meiteis when it comes to the usage of the fabrics" .

The boutique will not only generate income but also provide a source of employment for the women weavers.
